Altris Religions

A deity in this world is a being who gains their power from the plane itself or is granted abilities by a greater power. The influence of that deity is measured by the number of worshipers that exist in each place or plane. In other words, a deity wields extreme power in its home plane but its power is a relationship of the number of faithful worshipers in another plane or place. A deities influence distance begins with the worshiper. A deity can influence the area of approximately one million miles in all directions centered on a worshiper. Beyond that distance the deity’s ability sharply fade to nothing. Each deity resides on a home plane, on this plane they have a pocket that belongs to them, while in this pocket the deity is virtually indestructible.

A deity comes in serval forms, each form denotes the power and abilities of the deity. First is a natural deity, this is a being that formed from the plane of existence they resided on, or some other location and moved and attuned to the current plane. These are the most powerful and are nearly indestructible, even if destroyed these deities will more than likely reform over time as they regenerate their power, the older the natural deity, the stronger they are.

The second type is an appointed deity. This is one that is granted the power from another, normally a natural deity. These deities can be from the plane or from somewhere else, even can be from a mortal realm. Like a natural deity, these have their own pocket where they have their greatest power, their power is lesser when they leave that pocket and their influence is the same as all other deities, deponent on worshippers. If either of these two, natural or appointed are slain on another plane other than their home plan, then they will simply reform on their home plane.

Evolved deity is one that has gained power through magic or mental discipline and extra powers are developed. If these individuals gain devout followers, then the abilities and powers of these individuals increase accordingly. For mortals like humans on the prime material plane, a person may develop the ability to channel divine abilities and ascend to the outer planes.

The last is someone that gains some divine favor but remains mostly mortal. A person can begin learning to channel some divine power then evolve and ascend to the other planes, then be appointed by a natural deity. This path is possible.

It is important to remember, Demi-Gods can be slain anywhere, Lesser Deities and Intermediate Deities can only be slain on their home or ascended plane, and natural deities generally can not be slain, only disrupted for a time.

Demi-, Lesser, and Intermediate deities can have their abilities stripped from them by either the natural deity that bestowed those powers or a natural deity that is stronger than the one that did. Any natural deity can strip powers from a demi-power or lesser power. The exception to the rule is an intermediate power who is on their birth plane and has a substantial following can resist the stripping of their powers, however if two or more natural gods work together, there is nothing any of the lesser powers can do to resist it on their own. Demi and lesser powers that are not protected by another natural power, can be cast out of their alignment plane and their pocket plane destroyed by natural powers, additionally the demi and lesser powers, can also be destroyed permanently by a natural power.

A natural power attuned to another alignment plane will not have the power to perform the above actions. The number of planes removed from the place the deity is attempting to attack will reduce the natural powers abilities to eventually to nothing, as is the case of an opposing alignment. Natural deities that are not of the alignment planes do not have their power diminished as they travel, their power is already diminished when they arrived in the alignment plane group.
