Order of the Burning Dawn

This order was formed by a group of clerics and paladins of Heironeous to prevent the events foretold by a blind cleric centuries ago. Although the order is not on the best of terms with their temple hostilities between the two factions had ceased when the temple clerics and followers declared an open war on the order and their spells failed them in battle allowing the burning dawn members to easily over-run them.

In present times, the order has built their own order halls, they do frequent the temples to pray and give offerings but, they also maintain an order temple on their own grounds. The order is made up of several professions that provide all kinds of support, weapons, armor, food, coin, and information. All of which live on or near the order hall.

The order halls are generally built outside of large cities. The main headquarters in located in the city of Ura. These halls are large and fortified, in most cases the hall fortifications are greater than the cities they are built in. Around the halls are generally farms which provide most of the food and other supplies (such as leather). Inside the fortified walls is like a small city, craftsmen and artisans continuously fulfill orders to equip members. Training grounds are sectioned off where young members learn multiple forms of combat.

The main halls are several floors tall, as well as several floors below. This is where both order members and trainees eat, sleep, learn, organize, and train. At the center of it all is a large multi-floor library filled with books, scrolls, scrap parchment, clay and stone tablets and markings, maps, and drawings on deer hides. At nearly anytime 30-60 scribes can be seen at tables coping or compiling information from the source material around them. Many of the copied books are then sent to other order halls.

Order members are started young. Many are taken in as orphans, taken from jail cells or purchased from slave lots in other kingdoms. On occasion, young children are dropped off by family members. Most members rarely start training after the age of 6.

The primary goal of the training is to obtain Hand of the Prophet or Prophet Investigator level. These are the highest skilled members are charged with both investigating prophecy signs as well as dealing with prophecy promoters.

Hand of the Prophet

These members could be seen by outsiders as brutal enforcers. They have been known to slaughter entire villages in the name of the prophecy. And it is their members the clergy of Heironeous takes the most offence to. Members are selected based on their ability to follow instructions, have no attachments and are willing to do what is necessary, and without conscience. Members are highly trained, most of them in one or more professions and combat styles, to include the use of magic. However, there are no clerics to Heironeous among there ranks. Their clerics tend to be from more neutral gods. The most common professions are warriors with sorcery or wizardry abilities. The less common are trackers, scouts, and assassins.

Prophet Investigator

These members are specially trained to be able to change up skills as needed and where needed. These are charged with investigating rumors and strange things that could give them a lead of the next prophecy event. Though this group are capable fighters in their own right, they do depend highly on a combination of divine and arcane magic to augment their fighting skills. Their greatest skill is their ability to blend in and gather information. Many call them thieves or snoops and they have found themselves on the wrong side of the law more than once while following a lead. They are trained to bypass traps and magical wards, pick locks scale walls and buildings, anything that may stand between them and the information they seek. They far more accepted by the clergy of Heironeous and people in general then the Hand of the Prophet, and are often sought out to perform non-order tasks for pay.

The Prophets

The prophets are the leaders of the organization. These are made up from clerics, scholars, and leading members of the supporting organizations. Although they have a strict hierarchy, all members are simply referred to as “prophet”. The rank is indicated by the color of the robes they wear.

The Others

This group is made up of those that could not complete the training. But instead of being cast out, the order uses them as informants, assistants, or in support roles. These members tend to be of a single profession as Temple Guards, Research wizards, Scouting rogues, temple clerics, or craftsmen
