This is a fortified city with wall towering some thirty feet high and claimed to be mortered with the blood of millions. The city is also defended by a raging river on one side and the mountains on the other. The only way in or out is by crossing the two section draw bridge over the river. The walls and towers are constantly partolled as is the roadway, bridge and skies. In the center of the fortress is a rotating glass ball, it is said this large nearly 4 foot diameter glass sphere contains a living beholder and the lens has been enchanted to extend the range of the beholders abilities, casting anti-magic rays at any would be attackers.
